To make your home’s exteriors unique, you need to consider many factors to choose the right colors and painting materials. For instance, to ensure that the paint lasts, you’ll want to take climate and weather into account, paying particularly close attention to areas vulnerable to moisture. Do you have color trees or shrubs in your yard? Pick shades that will complement and enhance these elements for a more uniform appearance. If your home has architectural flaws, a well-executed design can draw the eye elsewhere, helping your home look more appealing. At Platinum Painting, our experts think of everything!

The Steps of Exterior Painting

  • Initial Set Up – Before we paint, we power wash the surfaces, removing debris like sand, mildew, dirt, and more. We also take the time to hand scrape any loose, chipping paint off. We do ask homeowners to remove any outside plants, art fixtures, and other important objects from the space before we arrive. More importantly, make sure the sprinklers are turned off! To learn more about preparing for our team, please look at our Getting Started page.
  • Priming – Every exterior project requires a high-quality primer to get the house ready for paint and ensure that these improvements last a long time.
  • Painting – Our team then applies the shade and gloss of paint that you choose in even coatings. Not only will your exteriors look great, but they will also be able to stand against the elements!
  • Clean-Up – Every day and at the end of the entire project, our team members clean up after themselves. We will pack away our materials, remove any unsightly paint chips, and clear all trash. Other than the flawless paint job, there won’t be any indication that we were ever there.
  • Final Inspection – When we’re finished, we’ll perform a final inspection with you around your brand-new exterior to make sure that you’re thrilled with the results. Notice something you want us to address? Just let us know, and we’ll take care of it!

Exterior Painting FAQs

Are you putting your house on the market? Are you having guests visit? The exterior of your home can make a powerful first impression before you walk through the front door. You probably want your home stand out in the best possible way, which is why you should consider exterior painting with Platinum Painting of McKinney. Take a look at our answer to some of the most common questions we get from homeowners. You’re more than welcome to reach out to our team and ask if you have other questions not mentioned here.

Is it ever too hot or cold to paint? What is the best season to paint outside?

As proud Texans, we’re familiar with the crazy, unpredictable weather around here, no matter the season. In most cases, we know exactly how to handle painting in the elements and provide the best results. For instance, during the summer, we paint earlier in the day to avoid the extreme heat in the afternoon. Keep in mind that we may need to reschedule exterior painting if the temperature drops below 35 degrees or if it’s raining. In these conditions, the results will not meet our high standards of excellence. Whatever the weather, we do our best to give you an exterior that you’ll want to show off.

Should I replace my gutters when I paint?

If they need to be replaced, then yes! Your gutters may be small, but they help preserve and extend the quality of your home and the exterior paint. In fact, gutters take potentially damaging rainwater away from the foundation and walls of the house. If you choose to replace your gutters while we paint the exteriors, we can prime and paint the fascia, a particularly vulnerable spot. We have a sister company, Platinum Gutters, and we would be more than happy to help you find a gutter system that makes the paint last longer than expected!

Can you paint metal fences or gates?

Yes! We have more than 10 years of industry experience, and we know how to paint basically any kind of surface with the best strategies and materials. This includes metal fences and gates. Staying current with new materials and techniques in the industry, our team is guaranteed to give you a paint job you love every time.

What prep work do I need to do before you start?

Before out team gets to your house, please do the following so that we can get straight to power washing, priming, and then painting your exteriors. Start by cleaning up your pet messes and keeping them away from the area where we’ll be working. Also, please turn off your sprinkler system. Water can damage the paint job, and we don’t need to be soaked with water! Finally, remove any wall hangings or plants from the area. With this preparation, we will be able to paint more effectively and complete the work in a timely manner!

Can you replace the wood before you paint?

Absolutely! Your home’s exterior wood surfaces can endure a lot. Over time, parts of your home’s structure, like the soffit, fascia, or HardiePlank lap siding, can become damaged due to the crazy Texas elements. At Platinum Painting, we can do more than just paint! We have the necessary carpentry skills to replace these parts and provide better protection for your home. After replacing this wood, we can then add primer and paint to shield these vulnerable areas even further.
